Specialty Classes: ACLS - PALS - AMLS - PHTLSThe Will/Grundy EMS System, based at Silver Cross Hospital, offers specialty classes for medical professionals such as EMS, Nursing and Physicians. Classes do have limited availability. To register for any of the following classes, please call Marilyn MacBlane at (815) 740-7130 #6. Registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment. Course materials will be mailed 30 days prior to the class date, provided payment has been received. Specialty courses will be held in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center unless otherwise indicated. For a map and directions see our home page.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) Provider CourseThis American Hearth Association class is designed to train advanced health care professionals in proper emergency cardiac care. This 2-day course is for Paramedics, Nurses and Physicians that have never had ACLS before or have let it expire. Participants are required to attend both days and must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) Re-Certification CourseThis is the update course for Paramedics, Nurses and Physicians that already have current ACLS certification, but are in need of Re-Certification prior to expiration. Participants are required to present a copy of their current AHA ACLS and HCP CPR cards upon arrival at the course.
Advanced Medical Life Support ( AMLS ) Provider CourseThis NAEMT course focuses on the pre-hospital assessment and treatment of patients presenting with medical emergencies. This 2-day course is for providers that have never had AMLS before or have let it expire. If you already possess a current AMLS certification and are in need of Re-Certification, you are still required to attend both days.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ) Provider CourseThis American Heart Association class is designed to train advanced health care professionals in pediatric emergencies. Participants are required to have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card. This one day course is for providers that have never had PALS before, have let it expire, or are in need of a Re-Certification class. Re-certifications must still attend the entire day.
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support ( PHTLS ) Provider CourseThis NAEMT course teaches pre-hospital providers concepts and techniques in pre-hospital trauma patient care. If you already hold a current certification in PHTLS and are in need of a Re-Certification class, you may attend the second day of the below listed provider class.

PARAMEDIC EDUCATION PROGRAMThe Will/Grundy EMS System holds one Paramedic Class a year at Silver Cross Hospital. Class runs from April to April. Applications are available every January with entry testing following in February. This class is affiliated with Joliet Junior College and is a minimum of 21.5 college credit hours. The course is divided into 3 semesters: EMS 215, EMS 216 & 217, and EMS 218 & 219. The 2008 course begins April 15, 2008 and graduates April 3, 2009. Tuition is set by JJC and is payable in three semester increments. Tuition for the 2008 course is $390.00 due 3/24/08, $702.00 due 7/15/08, and $585.00 due 11/4/08. Textbooks are purchased separately. ACLS, AMLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications are included offerings. The application and pre-entrance testing is complete and the 2008 Class is set. Our next class will begin in 2009, so please check back in January 2009. Remember, a pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program is the EMT-Basic Course, offered through our affiliate Joliet Junior College and various local fire departments.

EMT-BASIC COURSE / EMS ASSOCIATES DEGREEJoliet Junior College teaches the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) course and offers an EMS Associates Degree. The EMS Associates degree combines emergency medical theory with a liberal arts education with the scope of the program ranging from EMT-B through Paramedic. For information on the EMT-Basic Program or EMS Associates Degree, please call Joliet Junior College, Department of EMS at (815) 280-2356 or visit www.jjc.edu . The EMT-Basic Course is a pre-requisite to the Paramedic Program.
